Climate adaptation in the Indian and Pacific Oceans : Space-based tools and solutions for islands and insular areas

Island and insular areas in the Indian and Pacific Oceans are on the front line of climate change impacts facing sea-level rise, increasingly intense cyclones, coral bleaching and marine biodiversity loss. These challenges require rapid and specific responses where space technologies play a key role in monitoring, anticipation and action.

This session will highlight how Earth Observation data and regional initiatives support island communities in adapting to climate change and protecting their ecosystems. Through exchanges between experts, local stakeholders and project leaders, it will highlight concrete solutions already existing and discuss how to scale and strengthen their impact.

🔍 Agenda :

  • Introduction
  • Keynote : Rising tides, rising stakes: climate risks for Indian and Pacific Island nations by Dr. Soo Chin Liew – National University of Singapore
  • Roundtable discussion : Exploring how space‑based tools can help island areas adapt to climate change
    • Mr. Thibaut ROUDIER, Plastic-Odyssey
    • Ms. Claire DUFAU, CLS
    • Mr. Pascal CORREIA BARRETO, Direction des Ressources Marines, PolynĂ©sie Française
  • Project presentations :
    • TAHATAI Neo : A digital platform for marine spatial planning by Mr. Remi Andreoli (TauhĂŁ)
    • SCOast-DT : Monitoring coastal zones in the context of climate change, using digital twin technologies combined with Earth observation by Mr. Yannick TANGUY (CNES)
  • Conclusion : closing remarks and outlook on future actions.
