The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Fiji, established under the Land Transport Act 1998, is responsible for economic regulation, service delivery, enforcement, and road safety. The LTA was formed to enhance operational efficiency and financial management in line with government policies on deregulation. It merged the functions of the Transport Control Board (TCB), Central Traffic Authority (CTA), and Principal Licensing Authority (PLA), making it a commercially oriented entity with strong accountability.
Through GIS and remote sensing, the LTA can better manage transport infrastructure, monitor road conditions, and plan effective transport services.By participating in this regional council, the LTA can integrate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies into its operations, improving data collection, analysis, and decision-making processes. This technological collaboration aligns with the LTA’s goals of operational efficiency and accountability.
Governed by a seven-member Board appointed by the Minister for Public Enterprises with the Prime Minister’s approval, the LTA operates under strict regulatory powers. These include controlling all land transport, coordinating road transport services, and improving transport facilities.
The Board’s responsibilities also extend to ensuring alignment with national legislation, such as the Constitution of Fiji 2013, Finance Management Act 2004, Public Service Management Act 1999, Employment Relations Act 2007, and other relevant laws.
The current LTA Board is led by Chairperson Mr. Inosi Kuridrani, with Deputy Chairperson Mr. Rajendra Prasad, and Directors Mr. Lui Naisara, Mr. Kiran Khatri, Mr. SekoveTuilakeba, and Mr. EtuateKoroi.
Together, they oversee the LTA’s regulatory functions to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable land transport services across Fiji.
